I'm planning on getting an MBA. I'm applying to UCLA and the University of Hawaii. I love Hawaii's program, but obviously UCLA is a better school. How much does it matter if I'm top of my class, participate in clubs, network, etc.? If I were to be top of my class at UH versus being in the middle at UCLA, which would be better? I'm thinking I can do the same things with a degree from UCLA, but it just might take a little longer. I know with law school where you go is extremely important. I would rather go to UH, but feel the opportunities at UCLA will pay-off in the long run. Any opinions/advice?
In business, rep and networking are even more important than law.
Unless you plan on working permanently in Hawaii (and maybe not even then), Hawaii might be an ok choice.
Otherwise, I can comfortably use the word "stupid" to describe a person who turned down UCLA's Anderson for Hawaii.
I'm going to be graduating in June 2008 with a degree in Business with a concentration in Information Systems.
II'd like to work for at least a year before I attend law school. What would be the best kind of job to try and get before law school?
You should try and get a job as a law firm clerk or clerking for a judge in your city. This will give you some exposure to the legal profession so that you know what to expect when you enter it. Law school doesn't really teach you that, only real life experience will.
I want to do an internship with either a lawyer (preferably criminal), or a law firm or even a PI. I want to see if I really want to get into this field. I have a Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice that is just going to waste and I really need to put it into use. Plus I plan on going to Law School and I want some practical experience. Please help me.. I am in the Chicago Land area but I am willing to travel to a close suburb. If you do not know a specific person or place please help me with websites that might be able to give me a list. I have already tried Hotjobs and careerbuilder….

I've started back to college this year and want to have a career in the investigative field of law enforcement when I graduate. Right now I'm leaning toward majoring in psychology for lack of anything else related being offered by the local schools (in Tulsa) aside from criminal justice. I plan on taking some of the CJ couses as electives. Trying to determine if this is the correct path to take. I appreciate any and all advice.
The few officers I know went to Northeastern State University. If you think your interested in a career in law enforcement I suggest going thru the Tulsa Citizens Police Academy (CPA).
The Tulsa Police Department offers a Citizens Police Academy (CPA) two times a year at no cost to the participants. The CPA is designed, to develop a better understanding between citizens and their police department through education. The CPA is scheduled for 13 consecutive weeks, meeting on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. The Academies generally run from February to June and September to December.
